במה ששלימות האדם בידיעת ובהשגת הנמצאים, היה יותר ראשונה לדעת ולהשיג מהות עצמו, ולא יהיה סכל בהשגת עצמו. ובאמת השגה זאת לא קלה היא, כי לא רבים יחכמו בהשגה זאת, היא השגת מדריגת עצמו. ואם קלותה היא מצד עצם השגה הזאת, כי רק יפתח עינו ימצא הוא לעצמו, כי לא רחוק הוא ולא בשמים להכיר ערך מציאות עצמו, אשר אין דבר קרוב יותר מזה. אך רוב בני אדם ישיגו השגה הזאת בחלוף מה שהוא, כי יערוך עצמו לראשונים ויאמר כי גם לו לב, והימים הראשונים אינם טובים מאלה, כי החכמה שנטע יוצר הכל, הלא ממקום אחד בא, כי אישי המין אחד הוא. והמכשלה הזאת תחת ידם.
In that the perfection of man lies in knowing and understanding the beings, it is even more essential to first know and understand his own essence, and not be ignorant of understanding himself. Indeed, this understanding is not easy, for not many are wise in this matter, which is the comprehension of one’s own level. Even though it seems easy in terms of the nature of this comprehension—since one merely needs to open their eyes to find it, as it is not far away nor in the heavens to recognize the value of one’s own existence, which is the closest thing to oneself—most people will comprehend this incorrectly. They compare themselves to the ancients and say that they too have insight, and the former days are no better than these, because the wisdom that the Creator implanted comes from one source, as the individuals of the species are one. This stumbling block lies before them.
Поскольку совершенство человека — в знании и постижении существующего, то прежде всего ему следовало бы знать и постигать сущность самого себя и не быть невеждой в постижении самого себя. И поистине это постижение нелегко, ибо не многие умудряются в этом постижении — в постижении своей ступени. И если оно легко — то со стороны самой этой постижимости: ведь стоит лишь открыть глаза — и найдёт он самого себя, ибо не далеко это и не на небесах — узнать цену собственного существования, ведь нет ничего ближе этого. Однако большинство людей достигают этого постижения, подменяя то, что они есть: они приравнивают себя к первым и говорят: «и у него есть сердце», и «первые дни не лучше этих», ибо мудрость, которую насадил Создатель всего, ведь из одного места пришла, ибо личности одного рода — одно. И эта преткновенность у них под рукой.
