וּכְדֵי שֶׁלֹּא יִפָּלֵא בְּעֵינֵי הַקוֹרֵא, כֵּיוָן שֶׁגָּדוֹל כָּל כָּךְ כֹּחַ הָאִסוּר שֶׁל לָשׁוֹן הָרָע וְכֵן שֶׁל אוֹנָאַת דְּבָרִים, לָמָה מָצִינוּ בַּגְּמָרָא כַּמָה פְּעָמִים, שֶׁיֵּרָאֶה לִכְאוֹרָה שֶׁאָמוֹרָא אֶחָד מְקַנְטֵר לַחֲבֵרוֹ, גַּם עַל זֶה פָּקַחְתִּי עֵינַי וְהֶעְתַּקְתִּי מֵחֲמַת זֶה תְּשׁוּבַת "חַוּוֹת יָאִיר" בְּסוֹף הַסֵפֶר, וְגַם הַרְבֵּה מַאֲמָרִים תֵּרַצְתִּי בְּעַצְמִי בְּתוֹךְ הַסֵפֶר זְעֵיר שָׁם זְעֵיר שָׁם.
And so that it not be cause for wonder in the eyes of the reader, since the issur of lashon hara is so great, as is that of verbal wronging, why do we find many times in the Gemara that one amora seems to be taunting his colleague. To this, too, I "opened my eyes," and because of this I copied the responsum of the Chavoth Yair that appears at the end of the book. And, in the book itself, I also resolved many [seemingly contradictory] citations, a little here, a little there.
И чтобы читатель не удивлялся: коль скоро запрет лашон а-ра (злословия) столь велик, равно как и запрет онаат дварим (обидных слов), — почему мы находим в Гемаре неоднократно случаи, когда на первый взгляд кажется, что один амора задирает другого? На это я тоже обратил внимание и привёл в связи с этим ответ из книги «Хавот Яир» в конце книги, а также многие подобные высказывания разъяснил сам в тексте книги, понемногу в разных местах.
