וְאִם קָם (י) וְהֵעִיד עָלָיו לִפְנֵי בֵּית דִּין בִּדְבַר אִסוּר בִּיחִידִי, כֵּיוָן שֶׁאֵין יָכוֹל לָבוֹא מִזֶּה שׁוּם תּוֹעֶלֶת לְעִנְיַן מָמוֹן וּשְׁבוּעָה וְלֹא לְעִנְיַן לִפְסֹל אֶת הָאִישׁ הַזֶּה מֵחֶזְקַת כַּשְׁרוּתוֹ, כֵּיוָן שֶׁהוּא עֵד אֶחָד בַּדָּבָר, אִם כֵּן שֵׁם בִּישׁ בְּעָלְמָא הוּא דְּקָא מַפִּיק עָלָיו, וְעוֹבֵר עַל יְדֵי זֶה גַּם כֵּן עַל לָאו (דברים י"ט ט"ו) דְּ"לֹא יָקוּם עֵד אֶחָד בְּאִישׁ לְכָל עָוֹן וּלְכָל חַטָאת", וּצְרִיכִין בֵּית דִּין לְהַלְקוֹתוֹ עֲבוּר זֶה הַדָּבָר.
(10) And if one arises and testifies against another by himself before beth-din concerning something forbidden, since no benefit can result from this vis-à-vis monetary [obligations, imposition of] an oath, or invalidation of the other's status of kashruth [halachic fitness] since he is only a single witness in the matter, the only thing he "accomplishes" by this is giving the other a bad name, and he also transgresses the negative commandment of (Devarim 19:15): "One witness shall not testify against a man for every transgression and for every sin," and beth-din must punish him with stripes for this.
(10) Если он встал и свидетельствовал о нём перед судом (бейт дин) о каком-либо нарушении единолично, — поскольку от этого не может быть никакой пользы ни в денежном вопросе, ни в вопросе присяги, ни для того чтобы лишить этого человека презумпции порядочности, коль скоро он единственный свидетель, — выходит, что он лишь распространяет о нём дурную славу. И тем самым он также нарушает запрет (Дварим 19:15): «Не встанет один свидетель против человека ни за какое преступление и ни за какой грех». И суд обязан наказать его бичеванием за это.
