וְעוֹבֵר נַמֵי הַמְסַפֵּר וְהַמְקַבֵּל (ו) בְּלָאו (ויקרא כ"ב ל"ב) דְּ "לֹא תְחַלְּלוּ אֶת שֵׁם קָדְשִׁי", אַחֲרֵי שֶׁאֵין בָּזֶה תַּאֲוָה וְלֹא הֲנָאָה גַּשְׁמִית, שֶׁעַל יְדֵי זֶה יִתְגַּבֵּר יִצְרוֹ עָלָיו, עַל כֵּן נֶחְשָׁב הֶעָוֹן הַזֶּה כְּמֶרֶד וּפְרִיקַת עֹל מַלְכוּת שָׁמַיִם בְּעָלְמָא, וּמְחַלֵּל שֵׁם שָׁמַיִם בָּזֶה. וְזֶה דִּבַּרְנוּ אֲפִלּוּ בִּסְתַם אִישׁ יִשְׂרָאֵל, וּבִפְרָט אִם הוּא אִישׁ חָשׁוּב, שֶׁהַכָּל מִסְתַּכְּלִין עַל מַעֲשָׂיו, בְּוַדַּאי מִתְחַלֵּל הַשֵּׁם עַל יְדֵי זֶה. וְעַל אַחַת כַּמָה וְכַמָה אִם הָיָה הָעֲבֵרָה הַזֹּאת בָּרַבִּים, בְּוַדַּאי שֶׁהַחֵטְא גָּדוֹל עַד מְאֹד, שֶׁנִּקְרָא מְחַלֵּל שֵׁם שָׁמַיִם בָּרַבִּים.
6) The speaker and the receiver [of lashon hara] also transgress (Vayikra 22:32): "And you shall not profane My holy name," in that there is no lust or physical pleasure to cause his yetzer to intensify itself over him, so that this sin is regarded as rebellion and blatant divesting oneself of the yoke of Heaven; and he profanes the name of Heaven thereby. This, even in the instance of a plain Jew; how much more so in the instance of a man of eminence, whom they all look up to for guidance [speaking lashon hara], where the name of Heaven is certainly profaned! And how much more so, if this sin were committed in public, would it be extremely grave, the transgressor being called "a desecrator of the name of G–d in public."
(6) Рассказывающий и принимающий также нарушают запрет (Ваикра 22:32): «Не оскверняйте имени святого Моего». Поскольку в этом нет ни вожделения, ни телесного наслаждения, из-за которых дурное побуждение могло бы одолеть его, этот грех считается бунтом и сбрасыванием ига Царства Небесного, и тем самым человек оскверняет Имя Небес. И это мы говорим даже о простом еврее, тем более если он — уважаемый человек, за чьими поступками все наблюдают, — несомненно, Имя Небес оскверняется через это. И тем более если этот грех был совершён публично — несомненно, грех чрезвычайно велик, ибо он называется оскверняющим Имя Небес публично.
