(א) הַמְרַגֵּל בַּחֲבֵרוֹ עוֹבֵר בְּלֹא תַעֲשֶׂה, שֶׁנֶּאֱמַר: "לֹא תֵלֵךְ רָכִיל בְּעַמֶּיךָ" וְעָוֹן גָּדוֹל הוּא, וְגוֹרֵם לַהֲרֹג נְפָשׁוֹת רַבּוֹת מִיִּשְׂרָאֵל, לְכָךְ נִסְמַךְ לוֹ: "לֹא תַעֲמֹד עַל דַּם רֵעֶךָ". צֵּא וּלְמַד, מָה אֵרַע מֵרְכִילוּתוֹ שֶׁל דּוֹאֵג הָאֲדוֹמִי, שֶׁנֶּהֶרְגָה עַל יְדֵי זֶה כָּל נוֹב עִיר הַכֹּהֲנִים. וְלָאו זֶה שֶׁכָּתַבְנוּ, הוּא מַה שֶּׁכְּתַבְתּוֹ הַתּוֹרָה בְּפֵרוּשׁ מְיֻחָד לְאִסוּר זֶה, אְבָל בְּלָאו הָכִי {בלא זה} יֵשׁ עוֹד הַרְבֵּה לָאוִין וַעֲשִׂין אֲחֵרִים, כַּמְבֹאָר לְעֵיל בַּפְּתִיחָה, עַיֵּן שָׁם.
One who bears tales about his friend transgresses the negative commandment of (Vayikra 19:16): "You shall not go talebearing among your people." It is a great sin and leads to the killing of many souls in Israel, for which reason it is followed by "You shall not stand by the blood of your neighbor." (viz. Rambam, Hilchoth Deoth 8). Go and see what resulted from the rechiluth of Doeg the Edomite [viz. I Samuel 21], because of which there was wiped out the entire city of Nov, the city of Cohanim. And this negative commandment which we have adduced is that which the Torah wrote explicitly for this issur. But aside from this, there are many other [relevant] negative and positive commandments, as explained above in the introduction.
(1) Сплетничающий о ближнем нарушает запретительную заповедь, ибо сказано: «Не ходи сплетником в народе своём». И это великий грех, и он приводит к гибели многих душ из Израиля. Поэтому к нему примыкает [стих]: «Не стой на крови ближнего твоего». Выйди и узнай, что произошло из-за сплетничества Доэга Эдомитянина — из-за этого был убит весь Нов, город священников. И этот запрет, который мы написали — это то, что Тора написала как специальный запрет для данного греха.
