וְכֵן הָאֱלֹהִים ית׳ נָתַן סֵפֶר תּוֹרָתוֹ הָאֱמֶת לַעֲבָדָיו לִבְחֹן אוֹתָם וְהַמַּשְׂכִּיל הַפִּקֵּחַ כְּשֶׁהוּא קוֹרֵא אוֹתוֹ וִיבִינֵהוּ הֲבָנָה בְּרוּרָה יְחַלְּקֵהוּ לִשְׁלֹשָׁה חֲלָקִים הָאֶחָד מֵהֶם לָדַעַת הָעִנְיָנִים הַדַּקִּים הָרוּחָנִיִּים אֲשֶׁר הֵם מֵחָכְמַת הַמַּצְפּוּן כְּחוֹבוֹת הַלְּבָבוֹת וּמוּסְרֵי הַנְּפָשׁוֹת וִיחַיֵּב אֶת נַפְשׁוֹ לַעֲשׂוֹתָם תָּדִיר וְאַחֲרֵי כֵן יִבְרֹר מִמֶּנּוּ חֵלֶק שֵׁנִי וְהִיא חָכְמַת חוֹבוֹת הָאֵבָרִים בִּזְמַנָּם וּבִמְקוֹמָם ואח״כ יְשַׁמֵּשׁ בַּחֵלֶק הַג׳ בְּעִנְיְנֵי דִּבְרֵי הַיָּמִים לְדַעַת כִּתּוֹת ב״א וְתוֹלְדֹתָם עַל סֵדֶר הַדּוֹרוֹת שֶׁעָבְרוּ וּמָה שֶׁאֵרַע מִן הַדְּבָרִים וְהַחִידוֹת בְּיָמִים קַדְמוֹנִים וִישַׁמֵּשׁ בְּכָל עִנְיָן מִמֶּנּוּ בִּזְמַנּוֹ וּבִמְקוֹמוֹ.
Likewise, the blessed Al-mighty gave His Torah of truth to His servants to test them. The thinking, intelligent man, when he reads it and understands it clearly, will divide it into three divisions. The first is the knowledge of fine spiritual themes, namely, the inner wisdom, such as the duties of the heart, the discipline of the soul and will obligate his soul on them always. Afterwards, he will select the second portion, namely, the practical duties of the limbs, doing each one in its proper time and place. Afterwards, he will make use of the third division, the historical portions of Scripture, to know the various types of men and their happenings in historical order, and the events of past ages and their hidden messages. He will use every part according to its proper occasion, place, and need.
Так и Б-г, да будет Он благословен, дал книгу Своей истинной Торы Своим рабам, чтобы испытать их. И мудрый, сообразительный [человек], когда он читает её и понимает ясным пониманием, разделяет её на три части. Первая из них — познание тонких духовных вопросов, относящихся к мудрости сокровенного, — как обязанности сердец и нравоучения душ. И он обязывает свою душу исполнять их постоянно. А затем он выделяет из неё вторую часть — мудрость обязанностей органов тела, [каждую] в своё время и в своём месте. А затем он пользуется третьей частью — вопросами исторических повествований, для познания различных групп людей и их родословий по порядку прошедших поколений, и того, что случилось из событий и загадок в древние времена. И он пользуется каждым вопросом в его время и в его месте.
