וְהַגְּדוֹלָה שֶׁבַּטּוֹבוֹת אֲשֶׁר הֵיטִיב בָּהֶם הַבּוֹרֵא לַעֲבָדָיו הַמְּדַבְּרִים אַחֲרֵי הַמְצִיאוֹ אוֹתָם עַל תְּכוּנַת הַכָּרָתָם בָּהֶן גְּמוּרָה וַהֲבָנָתָם שְׁלֵמָה, הִיא הַחָכְמָה אֲשֶׁר הִיא חַיֵּי רוּחָם וְנֵר שִׂכְלָם. וְהַמְּבִיאָה אוֹתָם אֶל רְצוֹן הָאֱלֹהִים וְהַמַּצֶּלֶת אוֹתָם מִקִּצְפּוֹ בעוה״ז ובעוה״ב. כַּאֲשֶׁר אָמַר הַכָּתוּב (משלי ב) כִּי ה׳ יִתֵּן חָכְמָה מִפִּיו דַּעַת וּתְבוּנָה. וְאָמַר אֱלִיהוּא (איוב לב) אָכֵן רוּחַ הִיא בֶאֱנוֹשׁ וְנִשְׁמַת שַׁדַּי תְּבִינֵם. וְדָנִיֵּאל אָמַר (דניאל ב) יְהַב חָכְמְתָא לְחַכִּימִין וגו׳. וְאָמַר הַכָּתוּב (ישעיה מח) אֲנִי ה׳ אֱלֹהֶיךָ מְלַמֶּדְךָ לְהוֹעִיל מַדְרִיכֲךָ בְּדֶרֶךְ תֵּלֵךְ:
The greatest gift which the Creator bestowed on His servants, human beings, after bringing them out to full perception and complete (mature) understanding - is wisdom, which is the life of their spirit and the candle of their intellect; It brings them to the favor of G-d and saves them from His wrath in this world and the next, as Scripture says "for the L-ord gives wisdom: out of His mouth comes knowledge and understanding" (Prov.2:6); And Elihu said: "but there is a spirit in man, and the breath of the Almighty that gives them understanding" (Job 32:8); And Daniel said: "He gives wisdom unto the wise, and knowledge to them that know understanding" (Daniel 2:21), and "I am the L-ord your G-d who teaches you for your benefit, who leads you by the way that you should go" (Isaiah 48:17).
И величайшее из благ, которыми облагодетельствовал Творец Своих разумных созданий после того, как привёл их в бытие и наделил их способностью к полному осознанию и совершенному пониманию, — это мудрость, которая есть жизнь их духа и светоч их разума. Она приводит их к благоволению Б-га и спасает их от Его гнева в этом мире и в мире грядущем. Как сказано в Писании (Мишлей 2): «Ибо Г-сподь даёт мудрость, из уст Его — знание и разумение». И сказал Элиу (Ийов 32): «Воистину, дух в человеке, и дыхание Всемогущего даёт им разумение». И Даниэль сказал (Даниэль 2): «Он даёт мудрость мудрым» и т.д. И сказано в Писании (Йешаяу 48): «Я Г-сподь, Б-г твой, научающий тебя полезному, ведущий тебя путём, которым ты должен идти».
