וְרָאִיתִי בְּמַעֲשֵׂי קַדְמוֹנֵינוּ זַ״ל וּבְמָה שֶׁקִּבַּלְנוּ מִדִּבְרֵיהֶם כִּי יוֹתֵר הָיוּ זְרִיזִים וּמִשְׁתַּדְּלִים בְּחוֹבַת עַצְמָם מִמָּה שֶׁהָיוּ מִשְׁתַּדְּלִים בְּתוֹלְדוֹת הַדִּינִים וְהַשְּׁאֵלוֹת הַנָּכְרִיּוֹת הַמְּסֻפָּקוֹת.
I also noticed from the practice of our Sages, and from their sayings that we have received, that they were more zealous and engaged in their personal duties than in developing inferences of laws and remote, doubtful questions.
И я увидел из деяний наших предшественников, да будет благословенна их память, и из того, что мы получили из их слов, что они были более ревностны и усердны в обязанностях, касающихся их самих, чем в производных законах и необычных сомнительных вопросах.
