וְאָמְרוּ כָּל הָאוֹמֵר דְּבַר חָכְמָה אֲפִלּוּ בְּאֻמּוֹת הָעוֹלָם נִקְרָא חָכָם וְאָמְרוּ בַּהֲבָאַת הַמְּשָׁלִים לְקָרֵב הָעִנְיָנִים הַקָּשִׁים בָּהֶם אַגְמְרֵהּ בְּסִימָנִין וְאַסְבְּרֵהּ בִּדְדָמֵי לֵהּ וְהֶחָכָם אָמַר (משלי א) לְהָבִין מָשָׁל וּמְלִיצָה דִּבְרֵי חֲכָמִים וְחִידֹתָם:
Likewise, the Rabbis said (Megila 16a): "whoever says a wise thing, even among the gentiles is considered a Sage". They also said regarding bringing analogies to make difficult concepts easier to understand: "he taught it by signs and explained it by analogies" (Eruvin 21b); and the wise man said: "to understand a parable and figure, the words of the wise and their riddles" (Prov. 1:6).
И сказали [мудрецы]: «Всякий, кто говорит мудрое слово, даже из народов мира, именуется мудрецом». И сказали о приведении притч для приближения трудных вопросов: «Научу его посредством знаков и объясню ему посредством подобного ему». И мудрец сказал (Мишлей 1): «Постигать притчу и образную речь, слова мудрецов и их загадки».
