וְהָיוּ הוֹלְכִים בַּבַּיִת בְּעִנְיָן רַע מֵעִוְרוֹנָם וְכָל אֲשֶׁר הָלְכוּ בַּבַּיִת נִכְשְׁלוּ בַּדְּבָרִים הַמּוּכָנִים לְתוֹעַלְתָּם וְנָפְלוּ עַל פְּנֵיהֶם וְהָיָה מֵהֶם מִי שֶׁנִּפְצַע וּמִי שֶׁנִּשְׁבַּר וְרַב צַעֲרָם וְנִכְפְּלָה רָעָתָם וְהָיוּ מִתְרַעֲמִים עַל בע״ה וְהַבּוֹנֶה אוֹתוֹ וְגִנּוּ אֶת מַעֲשֵׂהוּ וְהָיָה בְּעֵינֵיהֶם כִּמְקַצֵּר וּכְמַנְהִיג רַע וְחָשְׁבוּ כִּי לֹא כִּוֵּן בָּהֶם כַּוָּנַת טוֹבָה וָחֶסֶד כ״א כַּוָּנַת הַצַּעַר וְהַנֶּזֶק וְגָרַם לָהֶם זֶה לִכְפֹּר בְּטוֹבַת בע״ה וְחַסְדּוֹ כְּמוֹ שֶׁאָמַר הֶחָכָם (קהלת י׳:ג׳) וְגַם בַּדֶּרֶךְ כְּשֶׁסָּכָל הֹלֵךְ לִבּוֹ חָסֵר וְאָמַר לַכֹּל סָכָל הוּא.
They wandered about aimlessly in the institution, miserable because of their blindness. Often as they were walking, they would stumble over objects that had been placed there for their benefit, and fall down on their faces. Some were bruised, others suffered broken limbs. Their pains and injuries increased and multiplied. Then they burst forth in complaints against the owner and the builder of the home, condemned his work, charged him with falling short in the fulfillment of his duty and condemned him as a bad manager. They persuaded themselves that his aim and purpose had not been to do them good and show them kindness, but to cause them pain and injury. This attitude of mind caused them at last to deny his goodness and kindliness, even as the wise man said (Koheles 10:3) "Yea also, when a fool walks by the way, his understanding fails him and he declares to everyone that he is a fool".
И ходили они по дому в бедственном состоянии из-за своей слепоты, и всюду, куда шли в доме, спотыкались о вещи, приготовленные для их же пользы, и падали ничком. И были среди них раненые и сломавшие кости, и велика была их скорбь, и удвоилось их бедствие. И роптали они на хозяина дома и строителя его, и порицали его труд, и казался он им скупцом и дурным управителем. И думали они, что он не имел по отношению к ним намерения добра и милости, а лишь намерение причинить страдание и вред. И привело их это к отрицанию благодеяния хозяина дома и его милости, как сказал мудрец (Коэлет 10:3): "И даже на дороге, когда глупец идёт, разум его скуден, и говорит он обо всём — глупец он".
