וְעִם כָּל זֶה חִיְּבָה הַתּוֹרָה וְהַשֵּׂכֶל עַל הַבֵּן הָעֲבוֹדָה וְהַכָּבוֹד וְהַיִּרְאָה כמ״ש הַכָּתוּב (ויקרא יט) אִישׁ אִמּוֹ וְאָבִיו תִּירָאוּ (משלי א) שְׁמַע בְּנִי מוּסַר אָבִיךָ וְאַל תִּטֹּשׁ תּוֹרַת אִמֶּךָ וְאָמַר (מלאכי א) בֵּן יְכַבֵּד אָב וְעֶבֶד אֲדֹנָיו. וְאִם הָאָב מֻכְרָח בָּזֶה בְּדֶרֶךְ הַטֶּבַע וְהַטּוֹבָה לָאֵל וְהוּא שָׁלִיחַ בָּהּ בִּלְבַד.
Nevertheless, the Torah and reason impose upon children the duty of serving, honoring and revering their parents, as Scripture says: "Ye shall, everyone, revere his father and his mother" (Vayikra 19:3); "Hear, O my son, the instruction of your father and forsake not the law of your mother" (Mishlei 1:8) ; further, "A son honors his father, and a servant his master" (Malachi 1:6). (And these duties are enjoined) despite that the father is impelled by a natural instinct and the benefaction comes from G-d, while the parent is only the agent.
И при всём том Тора и разум обязывают сына служить [отцу], почитать его и бояться его, как сказано в Писании (Ваикра 19:3): "Каждый мать свою и отца своего бойтесь". И (Мишлей 1:8): "Слушай, сын мой, наставление отца твоего и не оставляй учения матери твоей". И сказано (Малахи 1:6): "Сын почитает отца и раб — господина своего". А ведь отец принуждён к этому путём природы, и благо принадлежит Б-гу, и он лишь посланник в нём.
