וְאִם הָיִינוּ חוֹשְׁבִים כִּי מִי אֲשֶׁר מְטִיבִין לוֹ בְּתַכְלִית הַחֶסְרוֹן וְהַגְּרִיעוּת בְּהַרְכָּבָתוֹ וְחִבּוּרוֹ וּדְמוּתוֹ הָיָה חַיָּב בַּעֲבוֹדָה יוֹתֵר וְכֵן כַּאֲשֶׁר נַחְשֹׁב כִּי הַמֵּטִיב בְּטוֹבָה טוֹב וְשָׁלֵם מִכָּל נִמְצָא וּמִי שֶׁמְּטִיבִין לוֹ גָּרוּעַ מִכָּל נִמְצָא וְחָלוּשׁ מִכָּל נִבְרָא הַשֵּׂכֶל מְחַיֵּב בְּתוֹסֶפֶת הָעֲבוֹדָה לַמֵּטִיב עַד אֵין תַּכְלִית.
And if we thought that the beneficiary was extremely defective and imperfect in his physical conformation, figure and appearance [we would conclude that], the obligation of service on his part would be so much the greater. So also, if we should deem the benefactor the best and most perfect of all beings, while the beneficiary was the most defective of all things and the weakest of all creatures, reason would require that the service to the benefactor should be increased to an infinite degree.
А если бы мы помыслили, что тот, кому делают добро, находится в крайнем несовершенстве и ничтожности по своему строению, составу и облику, — он был бы обязан в служении ещё более. И так же, если мы помыслим, что благодетель благ и совершенен более всего существующего, а тот, кому делают добро, — ничтожнее всего существующего и слабее всего сотворённого, — разум обязывает к увеличению служения благодетелю без предела.
