אמר השכל – היסוד הראשון שעליו עומד כל הבנין הוא, שרצה הרצון העליון שיהיה האדם משלים את עצמו ואת כל הנברא בשבילו, וזה עצמו יהיה זכותו ושכרו. זכותו - לפי שנמצא שהוא מתעסק ויגע להשיג השלמות הזה, וכשישיגהו - יהיה נהנה רק מיגיע כפיו וחלקו מכל עמלו. שכרו - שהרי סוף סוף הוא יהיה המושלם, ויהיה מתענג בטובה לנצח נצחים:
Said the Intellect - The first foundation upon which the entire construct stands is, that the Heavenly Will wanted that man should complete himself and all that was created for him, and this itself shall be his merit and reward. His merit - because it will be found that he occupies himself and will achieve this completeness, and when he he reaches it - he will gain benefit only from the achievement of his hands and his portion from all of his effort. His reward - for in the end he will be that which is completed, and will enjoy goodness forever and ever:
Сказал Сехель (Разум): — Первый фундамент, на котором стоит всё здание, таков: высшая Воля захотела, чтобы человек совершенствовал себя и всё сотворённое для него; и это само будет его заслугой и его наградой. Его заслугой — потому что оказывается, что он занимается и трудится, чтобы достигнуть этого совершенства, и когда достигнет его — будет наслаждаться только плодом своих рук и своей долей из всего своего труда. Его наградой — потому что в конце концов он будет совершенным и будет наслаждаться благом во веки веков.
