אמר השכל – נגדור הכלל הזה, אחר נלך אל הקדמה אחרת עיקרית מאד. זה הכלל, האלוה ית"ש מנע, כביכול, את עצמו, פירוש, שמנע את יכלתו, בברוא נבראיו שלא לעשות אותם כפי כוחו, אלא לפי מה שרצה וכיון בהם; ובראם חסרים כדי שישלימו הם את עצמם, ויהיה שלמותם שכרם בזכות מה שטרחו להשיגו. וכל זה רק ברצותו להטיב הטבה שלמה:
Said the Intellect - let us define this general rule, and afterward proceed to another very fundamental introduction. This is the rule, HaShem may his name be blessed, held back, as if it were possible, Himself, meaning, that he withheld his ability, with the creation of his creations to not make them according to his power, rather according to that which he wished and intended in them; and he created them deficient so that they would complete themselves, and their completion would be their reward in the merit of that which the exerted effort in order to achieve. And this was only from His desire to make complete goodness:
Сказал Сехель (Разум) — Установим это правило, а затем перейдём к другой, весьма основной предпосылке. Правило таково: Бог, да будет благословенно имя Его, как бы удержал Себя, то есть удержал Свою силу, когда творил Своих творений — не сделать их сообразно Своей мощи, а согласно тому, чего Он захотел и что замыслил о них; и сотворил их несовершенными, чтобы они завершили сами себя, и чтобы их совершенство было их наградой — по заслуге того, что они потрудились достичь его. И всё это — лишь по Его желанию сделать полное благо.
