אך מה שיצטרך בידיעת הכללים הוא הדעת אותם בכל גבוליהם ובחינותיהם וכמש״ל ואפילו דברים שנראים בתחלה נעדרי התולדה צריך שתשמור אותם ותשית להם לבך ולא תהיה בז להם כי אין לך דבר קטון או גדול בכלל שאין לו מקום תולדה בפרטים ומה שלא יוסיף ולא יגרע בקצת הפרטים הנה יוליד תולדה רבה בזולתם ובהיות הכלל כלל לכלם צריך שיהיה בו מה שיספיק לכלם ע״כ צריך שתדקדק בזה מאד ותתבונן על ענינם ועל יחסיהם וקשריהם בדקדוק גדול ותבחין יפה יפה המשכם והשתלשלותם איך נמשכים ענין מענין מן הראש ועד הסוף ואז תצליח ואז תשכיל:
Yet what is required in the knowledge of general principles is knowing them through all of their limits and in all of their characteristics, as I wrote above. And you must even pay attention to, and not neglect, things that first appear to be lacking any application. For there is no small or large thing in a general principle that does not have [some] application in the details. And if it does not add or take away anything about some of the details, it will certainly have great application about others. Since a principle is a principle about all the details, it must contain [some information] about each of them. Hence you must be very exacting about this and examine their functions, their relationships and their connections with great precision. And you must examine their processes and progression very very well - [to know] how one matter leads to another, from the beginning to the end. 'And then you will be successful and then you will understand.'
Но для познания общих принципов необходимо знать их во всех их пределах и аспектах, как сказано выше. И даже вещи, которые на первый взгляд кажутся не имеющими следствий, необходимо хранить и обращать на них внимание, и не относиться к ним с пренебрежением. Ибо нет в общем принципе ничего — ни малого, ни великого, — что не имело бы своего места проявления в частностях. И то, что не прибавляет и не убавляет в одних частностях, порождает великое следствие в других. А поскольку общий принцип является общим для всех них, он должен содержать в себе то, что достаточно для всех. Поэтому необходимо быть в этом крайне точным, вдумываться в их суть, в их соотношения и связи с великой тщательностью, и хорошенько различать их последовательность и то, как одно вытекает из другого — от начала и до конца. И тогда ты преуспеешь, и тогда ты обретёшь понимание.
