נמצא כלל ענין פ׳ ראשון של שמע הוא העדות וההודאה ביחודו ית׳ בכל הבחנותיו קבלת עול מלכותו והמליכו על כל הברואים כלם וגמור בדעתנו להמסר על קידוש שמו. ותולדת כל זה היות האדון ב״ה מחזיק ממשלת יחודו על כל הבריאה והכנע והשתעבד כחות הרע, והתחזק הטוב והתגבר והמצאו ית׳ לבריאה שתתלה בו ותשתלם בשלימותו ותמשך ההשפעה הנותנת עילוי לברואים בשיעור המצטרך וינתן בם בהירות וקידוש כפי הנאות:
It comes out that the aggregate matter in the first verse of Shema is testimony and acknowledgement of His Unity - may He be blessed - in all of His aspects; acceptance of His Kingship and endorsement of His rulership over every one of the creatures at all; and making up one's mind to give up [his life] for the sanctification of His name. And the effect of all this is that the Master, blessed be He, strengthens the governance of His Unity over all of the creation; the submission of and subjugation of the forces of evil; the straightening of the good; and the growth of His being - may He be blessed - found in creation, for it to depend upon Him and become perfected with His perfection. And the influence that elevates the creatures is brought down in the measure that is needed; so that it gives them brightness and holiness according to what is appropriate.
Итак, общее содержание первого отрывка Шма — это свидетельство и признание Его единства во всех его аспектах, принятие ига Его царства и провозглашение Его Царём над всеми созданиями, и принятие решения отдать себя ради освящения Его Имени. Плод же всего этого — то, что Господь, да будет Он благословен, утверждает владычество Своего единства над всем творением, силы зла подавляются и подчиняются, добро укрепляется и усиливается, Он является для творения, дабы оно зависело от Него и совершенствовалось Его совершенством, и нисходит излияние, дающее созданиям возвышение в необходимой мере, и даруется им светлость и освящение в подобающей мере.
