עולם הנשמות: ואמנם בהיות שנגזרה המיתה על האדם וכמ״ש ונמצא שהמורכב הזה צריך שיפרד לזמן מה ואחר ישוב להתחבר הנה גם בזמן הפירוד הזה ראוי שיהיה מקום לב׳ החלקים המתפרדים נאות למה שנרצה לפירוד ההוא והנה הגוף צריך שיחזור ליסודו ותפרד הרכבתו ותפסד צורתו והואיל והיה מן העפר אליו ישוב והוא מ״ש ית״ש לאדם כי עפר אתה ואל עפר תשוב אך הנשמה (הזוכה במעשיה) הנה אין לה אלא לצפות עד שיעשה בגוף מה שצריך לעשות דהיינו ההתכה וההפסד בראשונה וההשאר בעפר כל הזמן שצריך וההבנות מחדש אח״כ לכשתשוב ליכנס בו ואמנם צריך שיהיה לה מקום בין כך ובין כך ואולם לצורך זה הוכן עולם הנשמות שבו תכנסנה הנשמות הזכות אחרי צאתן מהגוף ותשבנה שם במקום מנוחה כל זמן התגלגל על הגוף הענינים הראוים להתגלגל עליו. והנה כל הזמן ההוא תשבנה הנשמות ההן במעלה ובתענוג מעין מה שינתן להן אח״כ בזמן הגמול האמיתי שזכרנו למעלה כי גם מעלתו בעולם הנשמות ודאי שימדד לפי המעשים שעשו שלפיהן ימדד גם הגמול אחרי כן בזמנו. אך השלימות האמיתי המעותד לזוכים לו לא ישיגוהו לא הגוף ולא הנשמה אלא בהתחברן שנית אחר התחיה:
The world of souls: And yet since death was decreed upon man - and as I have written - and it comes out that this combination needs to divide for some time and come back to join; behold it is fitting that there also be at this time of division an appropriate place for these two divided parts, for that which is desired for this [period of] division. And see that the body needs to return to its element and separate [from] its combination and lose its form. And since it was dirt, it must return to it - and this is what He, may His name be blessed, said to Adam, "As you are dirt and to the dirt you shall return" (Genesis 3:19). But the soul (that has merited reward through its deeds) surely only has to wait until that which needs to be done to the body is done - meaning the desolidifying and decomposition of the first [body] and its remaining in the dirt all the time it needs, and its formation anew afterwards, when [the soul] returns to enter it. However it needs a place between this and that. And, in truth, it is for this reason that the world of souls was established - that the meritorious souls enter it, after their leaving the body, and dwell there in a restful place all the time that the matters that are fitting to happen to the body happen to it. And see that all of that time, these souls will dwell in loftiness and delight, similar to that which will be given to them afterwards at the time of the true repayment that we mentioned above. For his loftiness in the world of souls will also certainly be measured according to the actions that he has done, according to which his repayment afterwards at that time will also be measured. But the true perfection destined for those who merit it will not be attained - not by the body and not by the soul - until their joining together a second time, after the resurrection.
Мир душ: Поскольку смерть была определена человеку, как мы сказали, и получается, что это составное существо должно разделиться на некоторое время, а затем вновь соединиться, — то и во время этого разделения подобает, чтобы имелось подходящее место для обеих разделившихся частей, соответствующее тому, что желательно для этого разделения. Тело должно вернуться к своему основанию, его состав должен распасться и его форма должна разрушиться. И поскольку оно было из праха, к нему оно и возвратится, как сказал Всевышний человеку: «Ибо прах ты и в прах возвратишься». Но душа (удостоившаяся своими делами) должна лишь ожидать, пока с телом будет совершено то, что должно быть совершено, — а именно: сначала растворение и разрушение, затем пребывание в прахе всё необходимое время, а потом — заново построение, когда она вернётся и войдёт в него. Однако необходимо, чтобы у неё было место тем временем. Для этой нужды был приготовлен мир душ, в который входят чистые души после выхода из тела и пребывают там, в месте покоя, на всё время, пока с телом происходит то, чему надлежит произойти. И всё это время те души пребывают в достоинстве и блаженстве, подобном тому, что будет дано им потом, во время истинного воздаяния, о котором мы упоминали выше. Ибо и достоинство в мире душ, безусловно, отмеряется по тем делам, которые они совершили, — согласно им будет отмерено и воздаяние после того, в своё время. Но истинного совершенства, предуготовленного для удостоившихся его, не достигнут ни тело, ни душа, пока они не соединятся вновь после воскрешения.
