חילוף מצבי האדם בחילוף זמנו: ואולם כפי התחלף זמנו כך ראוי שיתחלף מצבו ושאר מקריו כי כל זמן ההשתדלות הנה צריך שיהיה בתכונה א׳ שיוכלו לימצא בו כל הענינים המצטרכים לו לפי ענין ההשתדלות הזה. פי׳ כי הנה מוכרח שתמצא לו המלחמה שזכרנו בין השכל והחומר ולא יהיה לו דבר שיעכב את החומר מלשלוט ולעשות את שלו כפי השיעור הראוי לו. ולא דבר שיעכב את השכל מלשלוט כראוי לו ולעשות את שלו. וכן לא יהיה דבר שיגרום לחומר להתחזק יותר מן הראוי וגם לא יגרום לשכל להתחזק יותר מן הראוי כי אעפ״י שמצד א׳ היה נראה זה יותר טוב הנה לפי הכונה האמיתית והענין הנרצה באדם שהוא קנית השלימות בהשתדלותו איננו טוב ובזמן קיבול השכר הנה ראוי לו שיהיה במצב הפכי לזה כי הנה כל מה שיהיה החומר שולט באותו זמן הנה לא היה אלא מחשיך ומעכב על הנשמה שלא תתדבק בבי״ת וע״כ הנה ראוי הוא שלא ישלוט אז אלא הנשמה והחומר יהיה נמשך אחריה לגמרי באופן שלא יעכב על ידה כלל. ואמנם ע״כ נבראו ב׳ העולמות עה״ז ועה״ב. עה״ז המקום והחוקים הטבעיים שלו הם מה שראוי לאדם כל זמן ההשתדלות. העה״ב המקום והחוקים שלו הם מה שראוי לו בזמן קיבול השכר:
The change in man's conditions with the change of time periods: However according to the change in the time period, so is it fit that his condition and his other circumstances change. For in all of the time of striving, he surely needs to be in a situation in which all the things that he needs for this process of striving can be found. The explanation of this is that it is surely necessary that the war that we mentioned between the spiritual and the material be present for him. And there should not be anything for him to impede the material from ruling and doing its [function], according to the measure that is fitting for it. And there should be nothing impeding the spirit from ruling, as is fitting for it, and doing its [function]. Likewise, there should not be anything that would cause the material to be strengthened more than is fitting, and also [nothing] causing the spirit to be strengthened more than is fitting. For even though from one angle, [the latter] would have appeared to be better; behold according to the true intention and the desired matter about man - which is the acquisition of perfection through his striving - it is not good. But at the time of receiving the reward, it is surely fitting that the situation be the opposite of this. For behold, all that the material would rule at that time was surely only to darken [man's awareness] and prevent the soul from cleaving to the Creator, may He be blessed. Therefore at that time, it is appropriate for only the soul rule; and that the material be completely drawn after it in such a way that it not be impeded by it at all. And indeed two worlds were therefore created - this world and the next world. The place and the natural conditions of this world are what is fitting for man all the time of his striving. And the place and the natural conditions of the next world are what is fitting for him at the time of receiving the reward.
Изменение состояния человека с изменением его периода: По мере того как меняется его период, должно меняться и его состояние и прочие обстоятельства. Ибо на протяжении всего времени усилия он должен находиться в таком состоянии, при котором могут присутствовать все обстоятельства, необходимые ему согласно характеру этого усилия. То есть необходимо, чтобы существовала упомянутая нами борьба между разумом и материей, и не было бы ничего, что мешало бы материи властвовать и действовать в подобающей ей мере, и ничего, что мешало бы разуму властвовать, как ему подобает, и действовать. И также ничто не должно заставлять материю усиливаться более подобающего, и ничто не должно заставлять разум усиливаться более подобающего. Ибо хотя с одной стороны это казалось бы лучшим, но с точки зрения истинного намерения и желаемого для человека — а именно обретения совершенства собственным усилием — это не было бы благом. А во время получения награды ему подобает находиться в состоянии, противоположном этому. Ибо всё, что материя властвовала бы в то время, лишь затемняло бы и препятствовало душе приобщиться к Нему, да будет Он благословен. Поэтому подобает, чтобы тогда властвовала лишь Нешама (душа), а тело полностью следовало за нею, так чтобы нисколько ей не препятствовать. И поэтому были сотворены два мира: Олам а-Зэ (Этот Мир) и Олам а-Ба (Грядущий Мир). Олам а-Зэ — его место и естественные законы суть то, что подобает человеку на протяжении всего времени усилия. Олам а-Ба — его место и законы суть то, что подобает ему во время получения награды.
