עַל־יְדֵי חֲלִישׁוּת הַלֵּב נוֹפְלִים פְּחָדִים עָלָיו.
The heart’s meekness causes it to be beset with fears.
Кротость сердца приводит к тому, что его одолевают страхи.
כִּי הַגִּבּוֹר אֵין לוֹ שׁוּם פַּחַד, וְעִקָּר הַגְּבוּרָה הוּא בַּלֵּב, דְּהַיְנוּ מִי שֶׁלִּבּוֹ חָזָק, אֵינוֹ מִתְיָרֵא מִשּׁוּם דָּבָר, וְרָץ לְתוֹךְ קִשְׁרֵי הַמִּלְחָמָה, וּמִתְגַּבֵּר עַל־יְדֵי חֹזֶק וְאֹמֶץ לִבּוֹ.
The mighty person is afraid of nothing, and strength is mainly in the heart. In other words, whoever is strong-hearted is not afraid of anything. He charges into the thick of the battle and is victorious on account of the strength and courage of his heart.
Могучий человек ничего не боится, а сила — главным образом в сердце. Иными словами, всякий, кто крепок сердцем, не боится ничего. Он бросается в самую гущу сражения и побеждает благодаря силе и мужеству своего сердца.
וְכֵן לְהֵפֶךְ, רַכֵּי־לֵבָב הֵם מִתְפַּחֲדִים. וְזֶה שֶׁכָּתוּב (דברים כ׳:ח׳): אִישׁ הַיָּרֵא וְרַךְ הַלֵּבָב, פֵּרֵשׁ רַשִׁ"י: הַיָּרֵא וְכוּ', כִּי עַל־יְדֵי רַךְ־לֵבָב, עַל־יְדֵי־זֶה הוּא מִתְיָרֵא, כַּנַּ"ל:
And the reverse is also true. The fainthearted are fearful. This is as it is written (Deuteronomy 20:8), “the man who is fearful and fainthearted.” Rashi comments: “who is fearful”—he is fainthearted, and therefore is afraid.
И обратное также верно. Малодушные — боязливы. Как написано (Дварим 20:8): «человек боязливый и малодушный». Раши комментирует: «боязливый» — он малодушный, и потому боится.
