אִם לֹא נִסְתַּכַּלְנוּ וְלֹא עִיַּנּוּ מָה הִיא הַיִּרְאָה הָאֲמִתִּית וּמָה עֲנָפֶיהָ, אֵיךְ נִקְנֶה אוֹתָהּ וְאֵיךְ נִמָּלֵט מִן הַהֶבֶל הָעוֹלָמִי הַמְּשַׁכֵּחַ אוֹתָהּ מִלִּבֵּנוּ. הֲלֹא תִּשָּׁכַח וְתֵלֵךְ אע"פ שֶׁיָּדַעְנוּ חוֹבָתָהּ.
If we do not look into and analyze what is true fear of G-d and what are its branches, how can we ever acquire it? And how can we ever save ourselves from the worldly vanities which causes our heart to be forgetful of it?! Will it not be forgotten and go away even though we recognize its necessity!
Если мы не всмотримся и не вдумаемся, что есть истинный трепет и каковы его ответвления, как обрести его и как спастись от мирской суеты, заставляющей забыть его в нашем сердце, — разве он не забудется и не уйдёт, несмотря на то что мы знаем нашу обязанность?
