וְכָלְלוּ חֲכָמֵינוּ זַ"ל (אבות פ"ב): כָּל שֶׁהִיא תִּפְאֶרֶת לְעוֹשֶׂיהָ וְתִפְאֶרֶת לוֹ מִן הָאָדָם, דְּהַיְנוּ: כָּל הַהֹלֵךְ אֶל תַּכְלִית הַהֲטָבָה הָאֲמִתִּית, דְּהַיְנוּ, שֶׁתּוֹלַדְתָּהּ חִזּוּק הַתּוֹרָה וְתִקּוּן אַחְוַת הַמְּדִינוֹת.
Our sages of blessed memory summarized this saying: "[what is the proper path a person should choose for himself?] Whatever is harmonious for the one who does it, and harmonious for other people" (Pirkei Avot 2:1). That is, that which leads to the goal of true beneficence, namely, strengthening of Torah and furthering of societal brotherliness.
И обобщили наши мудрецы, благословенна их память (Авот 2:1): «Всё, что является красою для совершающего и красою для него от людей», — то есть всё, что ведёт к цели истинного блага, а именно: чтобы результатом его было укрепление Торы и установление братства в обществе.
