כִּי יֵשׁ שֶׁיִּטְרְחוּ מְאֹד בְּמֶחְקָר הַבְּרִיאָה וְהַטֶּבַע, וַאֲחֵרִים יִתְּנוּ כָּל עִיּוּנָם לִתְכוּנָה וּלְהַנְדָּסָה, וַאֲחֵרִים לִמְלָאכוֹת. וַאֲחֵרִים יִכָּנְסוּ יוֹתֵר אֶל הַקֹּדֶשׁ, דְּהַיְנוּ, לִמּוּד הַתּוֹרָה הַקְּדוֹשָׁה. מֵהֶם בְּפִלְפּוּלֵי הַהֲלָכוֹת, מֵהֶם בַּמִּדְרָשִׁים, מֵהֶם בְּפִסְקֵי הַדִּינִים.
There are those who toil greatly in studying the creation and nature. Others devote all their study to astronomy and mathematics, or to the arts. There are others which enter closer towards the sacred, namely, the study of the holy Torah. Among those, some occupy themselves with Halachic analyses, others with Midrash, others with law decisions.
Ибо есть те, кто много трудятся в исследовании мироздания и природы, а другие отдают всё своё умозрение астрономии и геометрии, а иные — ремёслам. А другие входят глубже в святость, то есть в изучение святой Торы: одни — в тонкости галахических дискуссий, другие — в мидраши, третьи — в вынесение законодательных решений.
