And for every incidence of depression of this sort there will be a further effect, for from the good fire that is in the heart/ mind is aroused the Beena that is in the brain, from which is aroused judgment, to derive, by understanding of one thing from another, how many damages he caused with thought, speech and action; and how distant he is from God, and how greatly bereft he is. And to the extent that he enlarges his investigation of his ways and to research them, to that extent arises stern judgments, and he becomes embittered over his soul-Neffesh that he clothed it in thought, speech and actions that aren’t good. And he arouses the Water within the brain to cry tears over this, and the judgments are sweetened with God’s compassion. When the gates of tears are opened, which are [emphatic] the letter yud from the name YHV”H (blessed is He), the 119 judgments (which have the numerical value of “tear”487Heb.: dim’ah, which has the g’matria (numerical value) of 119), of the 120 combinations of letters of the name Elohi”m, are sweetened.
