מי שאינו צריך לבריות והוא לוקח מהם אינו נפטר מן העולם עד שיצטרך וכן המפסח את שוקיו והמסמא את עיניו לא יצא מן העולם עד שיבא לידי מדה זו:
One who has no need of humans but takes from them, does not leave the world until he has need of them.1Peah 8:9. And so a beggar who simulates a hump, one who feigns blindness, he does not part the world until he arrives at this condition.2Ketuboth 68a.
