כי עליך הורגנו כל היום אלו בני אדם שמקבלים בושת והלבנת פנים על המצות כי כשאומר לאדם סכלות לקיים מצות ציצית ותפילין וכיוצא בהן נשפך דמו כמים מפני הבושה מעלה עליו הכתוב כאלו נהרג עליו ועל המלבין פניו מעלה עליו כאלו הרג ומונעו מלעשות מצוה זה שאמר הכתוב (ישעיה כט כא) מחטיאי אדם בדבר ואומר כי עליך נשאתי חרפה וגדולה חרפה מזו אמרו חכמים כל העושה עבירה ומתבייש בו מוחלין לו כל עונותיו שנאמר (יחזקאל טז סג) למען תזכרי ובושת ולא יהיה לך עוד פתחון פה מפני כלימתך בכפרי לך לכל אשר עשית נאום ה' צבאות:
“May, but for Thy sake are we killed all the day” (Ps. 44:23). These are people who suffer insult and shame because of the commandments. For when one tells a person it is foolish to fulfill the commandments of fringes and phylacteries and the like, his blood spills as water because of the shame. Scripture regards this as if he had been murdered because of it. One who shames another is regarded as a murderer1Baba Metzia 58b. and it (sin) withholds him from performing a meritorious deed. This is what Scripture has said, “That make a man an offender by words” (Isa. 29:21) and it has been said, “Because for Thy sake I have borne reproach” (Ps. 69:8). “Still greater is the effect of shame,” our sages have said, “in the case of one who commits a sin and is put to shame by it, he is pardoned for all his transgressions.”2Berakoth 12b. For it is said, “That thou mayest remember and be confounded and never open thy mouth anymore because of thy shame when I have forgiven thee all that thou hast done, saith the Lord, God” (Ezek. 16:63).
«Ибо за Тебя умерщвляют нас весь день» (Теилим 44:23) — это люди, которые принимают стыд и побледнение лица за заповеди. Ибо когда говорят человеку «глупость» за то, что он исполняет заповедь цицит, тфилин и тому подобное — кровь его проливается как вода от стыда. Писание засчитывает ему, как если бы он был убит за это. А позорящему его — засчитывается, как если бы убил и удержал от исполнения заповеди. Это то, что сказано в Писании: «Вводящие человека в грех словом» (Йешаяу 29:21). И сказано: «Ибо за Тебя нёс я поношение» (Теилим 69:8). И больший позор, чем этот, сказали мудрецы: «Всякий, кто совершает грех и стыдится его — прощаются ему все грехи его», как сказано: «Чтобы ты помнила и стыдилась, и не было у тебя более повода открыть рот от стыда, когда Я прощу тебе всё, что ты сделала — слово Господа Воинств» (Йехезкель 16:63).
