אמרו לו מה ה"א, כעס ואמר להם לא אמרתי לכם לא תשאלו לי על דבר אחרון ואח"כ על הראשון, אמרו לו וה"א אחרון כתובה, אמר להם ראוי הוא להיכתב גימ"ל ה"א ועל מה נכתב גימ"ל דלי"ת מפני שהיה לו לכתוב דלי"ת ה"א, ומפני מה כתב גימל דלית, אמר להם נחלפים הגימל במקום דלית בראשה במקום ה"א דלי"ת בקוצה מקום ה"א:
They said to him [Mar Rachumai], "What is Hei? He was angry and said to them, "Did I not say to you not to ask me about a later thing and afterward about the previous?" They said to him, "But Hei is written after [Dalet]!" He said to them, "It is fitting for it to have been written, ' Gimmel Hei,' so why is it written, ' Gimmel Dalet'?" He said to them, "The Gimmel was switched in place of Dalet, in the head in the place of Hei. Dalet in the embellishment of the place of Hei."
Сказали ему: что такое эй? Разгневался и сказал им: разве я не говорил вам — не спрашивайте о последнем, а потом о первом? Сказали ему: но ведь эй написана после! Сказал им: порядок должен был быть гимель-эй, а почему написано гимель-далет? Потому что должно было быть написано далет-эй. А почему написано гимель-далет? Сказал им: гимель заменяет далет своей головой на месте эй, а далет — своим штрихом на месте эй.
