ישב ר' אמוראי ודרש מאי דכתיב (תהלים פ"ז ב) אוהב ה' שערי ציון מכל משכנות יעקב, שערי ציון הם פתחי עולם, ואין שער אלא פתח כמד"א פתח לנו שערי רחמים, כך אמר הקב"ה אוהב אני שערי ציון כשהן פתוחין, למה, שהן מצד הרעה, וכשישראל טובים לפני המקום וראוים להפתח לטוב הקב"ה אוהבם מכל משכנות יעקב שהם כולם שלום שנאמר (בראשית כה כז) ויעקב איש תם ישב אהלים:
Rabbi Amorai sat and expounded, "Why is it written, 'YHVH loves the gates of Zion more than all the [other] dwellings of Jacob' (Psalms 87:2)? 'The gates of Zion' - these are the openings of the world. There is no gate that is not an opening, as we say, 'Open for us the gates of compassion' (High Holiday Prayers). Thus, the Blessed Holy One said, 'I love the gates of Zion, when they are open.' Why? Because they are from the side of evil. But when Israel are good before The Place and fitting to be opened to good, the Blessed Holy One loves them ' more than the dwellings of Jacob.' All of them are peace - as is written, 'And Jacob was a simple man, sitting in tents' (Genesis 25:27)."
Сел рабби Амораи и толковал: что означает написанное (Теилим 87:2) «Любит Господь врата Сиона более всех жилищ Яакова»? «Врата Сиона» — это врата мира. А «врата» — это не что иное как вход, как говорим: «Открой нам врата милосердия». Так сказал Святой, благословен Он: люблю Я врата Сиона, когда они открыты. Почему? Потому что они со стороны зла. И когда Израиль добр пред Вездесущим и достоин того, чтобы открылось добро, Святой, благословен Он, любит их более всех жилищ Яакова, которые все — мир, ибо сказано (Берешит 25:27) «И Яаков — человек кроткий, живущий в шатрах».
