שאלו תלמידיו מהו חולם, א"ל נשמה ושמה חולם שאם תשמע תחלים גופך לעתיד לבוניו ואם תמרוד בה ישובו חלאיך בראשך וחלים בראשה:
His students asked him, “What is cholem?” He [Rabbi Amorai] said to them, “A soul [neshamah]. Its name is cholem because if you listen, your body will recover for the future of its builders, but if you rebel against it, your illnesses will return upon your head — so cholim are on her head."
Спросили ученики: что такое холам? Сказал им: душа, и имя ей холам. Ибо если послушаешь её, укрепишь тело своё в будущем. А если взбунтуешься против неё, вернутся болезни твои на голову твою и болезни — на её голову.
