מִן הַשֵּׂכֶל שֶׁאָמַרְתִּי כִּי כְּבָר נִתְבָּרֵר לָנוּ כִּי הָאָדָם מְחֻבָּר מִנֶּפֶשׁ וְגוּף וּשְׁנֵיהֶם מִטּוֹבוֹת הַבּוֹרֵא עָלֵינוּ. הָאֶחָד נִרְאֶה. וְהַשֵּׁנִי אֵינוֹ נִרְאֶה. וַאֲנַחְנוּ חַיָּבִים לַעֲבֹד אוֹתוֹ בַּעֲבוּר זֶה עֲבוֹדָה גְּלוּיָה וַעֲבוֹדָה צְפוּנָה. הַגְּלוּיָה חוֹבוֹת הָאֵבָרִים כְּמוֹ הַתְּפִלָּה וְהַצּוֹם וְהַצְּדָקָה וְלִמּוּד תּוֹרָה וּלְלַמְּדָהּ וַעֲשׂוֹת סֻכָּה וְלוּלָב וְצִיצִית וּמְזוּזָה וּמַעֲקֶה וְהַדּוֹמֶה לָהֶם מִמָּה שֶׁיִּגָּמֵר מַעֲשֵׂהוּ עַל יְדֵי חוּשֵׁי הָאָדָם הַנִּרְאִים.
First the arguments from Reason. It is already familiar that man consists of body and soul. Both are among the benefits G-d has bestowed on us. One of these elements of our being is visible and the other is invisible. Therefore, we are accordingly under duty to render the Creator visible and invisible service. The outward service is the observance of the duties of the limbs such as praying, fasting, giving charity, learning the torah and teaching it, making a Sukka, waving a willow branch (on the festival of Sukkot), Tzitzit, Mezuza, Maake, and similar precepts whose performance is completed by the physical limbs.
С точки зрения разума я рассудил так: нам уже ясно, что человек состоит из души и тела, и оба они — благодеяния Творца к нам. Одно из них видимо, а другое невидимо. И мы обязаны служить Ему за это служением явным и служением сокровенным. Явное — это обязанности органов тела, такие как молитва, пост, подаяние, изучение Торы и обучение ей, устройство сукки, [заповедь] лулава, цицит, мезузы, ограждения [на крыше] и подобные им из того, что совершается посредством видимых органов чувств человека.
