וְכַאֲשֶׁר הִתְבָּרֵר לִי חִיּוּבָם מִדֶּרֶךְ הַשֵּׂכֶל אָמַרְתִּי בְּלִבִּי שֶׁמָּא הָעִנְיָן הַזֶּה אֵינֶנּוּ כָּתוּב בְּסֵפֶר תּוֹרָתֵנוּ וע״כ הִנִּיחוֹ לְחַבְּרוֹ בְּסֵפֶר שֶׁיּוֹרֵנוּ אוֹתוֹ וְיַרְאֵנוּ עִנְיָנָיו.
After their obligation has become clear to me from the grounds of Reason, I said to myself "perhaps this matter is not written in the torah, therefore they refrained from writing a book which instructs on it and demonstrates it."
И когда мне стало ясно, что обязанность [сердечного служения] подтверждается разумом, я сказал себе: быть может, этот предмет не записан в книге нашей Торы, и потому предшественники оставили [решение] составить о нём книгу, которая научила бы нас и показала бы его содержание.
