וְצָרִיךְ שֶׁתֵּדַע כִּי הַכַּוָּנָה וְהַתּוֹעֶלֶת בְּמִצְוֹת הַלְּבָבוֹת הֵם שֶׁיִּהְיוּ גְּלוּיֵנוּ וּצְפוּנֵינוּ שָׁוִים וּשְׁקוּלִים בַּעֲבוֹדַת הַשֵּׁם עַד שֶׁתִּהְיֶה עֵדוּת הַלֵּב וְהַלָּשׁוֹן וְהָאֵבָרִים שָׁוָה וְיַצְדִּיק כָּל אֶחָד מֵהֶם אֶת חֲבֵרוֹ וְיָעִיד לוֹ וְלֹא יַחְלֹק עָלָיו וְלֹא יִסְתֹּר דְּבָרָיו וְהוּא אֲשֶׁר יִקְרָאֵהוּ הַכָּתוּב תָּמִים בְּאָמְרוֹ (דברים יח) תָּמִים תִּהְיֶה עִם ה׳ אֱלֹהֶיךָ וְאָמַר (בראשית ו) תָּמִים הָיָה בְּדוֹרוֹתָיו וְאָמַר (תהלים טו) הוֹלֵךְ תָּמִים וּפֹעֵל צֶדֶק וְדֹבֵר אֱמֶת בִּלְבָבוֹ וְאָמַר (שם קא) אַשְׂכִּילָה בְּדֶרֶךְ תָּמִים מָתַי תָּבֹא אֵלָי אֶתְהַלֵּךְ בְּתָם לְבָבִי בְּקֶרֶב בֵּיתִי.
You should realize that the aim and value of the duties of the heart is that our exterior and interior be equal and consistent in the service of G-d, so that the testimony of the heart, tongue, and limbs be alike, and that they support and confirm each other instead of differing and contradicting each other. This is what Scripture calls "tamim" (innocent/perfect), in saying: "You shall be perfect with the L-ord your G-d" (Deut. 18:13), and "Noah was a righteous man and perfect in his generations" (Gen. 6:9), and "he who walks uprightly, and works righteousness, and speaks the truth in his heart" (Ps. 15:2), and "I will give heed unto the way of integrity..I will walk within my house with a perfect heart" (Ps. 101:2).
И тебе следует знать, что цель и польза заповедей сердец состоит в том, чтобы наше явное и наше сокровенное были равны и уравновешены в служении Г-споду, дабы свидетельство сердца, языка и органов тела было единым, и каждое из них подтверждало другое и свидетельствовало о нём, не противоречило ему и не опровергало его слов. И это то, что Писание называет «тамим» (цельным), говоря (Дварим 18): «Будь цельным с Г-сподом, Б-гом твоим». И сказано (Берешит 6): «Цельным был в поколениях своих». И сказано (Теилим 15): «Ходящий непорочно и творящий справедливость, и говорящий истину в сердце своём». И сказано (там же, 101): «Буду размышлять о пути непорочном — когда Ты придёшь ко мне? Буду ходить в непорочности сердца моего в доме моём».
