והנה ע״פ הדברים האלה חיברתי לך קורא נעים חיבור קטן זה וכוונתי בו להציע לפניך כללי האמונה והעבודה על בורים באופן שתוכל לעמוד עליהם אל נכון ויצטיירו בשכלך ציור מספיק מוצל מן הערבוב והמבוכה ותראה שרשיהם וענפיהם במדריגותם בבירור האפשרי שיתישבו על לבך ותקנה אותם בשכלך במובחר שבפנים ומשם והלאה יקל לך למצא דעת אלקים בכל חלקי התורה ופירושיה ולעמוד על כל סתוריה כברכת ה׳ אלקיך אשר יתן לך והנה נשתדלתי לסדר הדברים בסידור שנראה לי יותר נאות ובמלות שחשבתים היותר הגונות לתת לך ציור שלם מהדברים האלה אשר גמרתי להשכילך ע״כ גם אתה עתה צריך אתה לדקדק על כל זה ולשמור את כל זה שמירה מעולה עד תמצא מקום שיועיל לך ולא תוותר על שום דקדוק פן יתעלם ממך ענין הכרחי אבל זה אשר תעשה תדקדק על כל המלות ותשתדל לעמוד על תוכן הענינים ולעצור כל אמיתתם בשכלך ומצאתה לך מנוח אשר ייטיב לך והנה קראתי שם הספר דרך ה׳ כי הנה הוא כלל מדרכיו ית׳ שגלה לנו ע״י נביאיו והודיענו בתורתו ובהם מנהלנו ומנהל כל בריותיו וחלקתי אותו לד׳ חלקים הא׳ אדבר בו על כלל יסודות המציאות ופרטותיו הב׳ בהשגחתו ית׳ הג׳ בנבואה והד׳ בעבודה ואתה אחי כל מבקש ה׳ בדרך הזה לך וה׳ יהיה עמך ונתן לך עינים לראות ואזנים לשמוע נפלאות מתורתו אכי״ר:
Now see, pleasant reader, that it is according to these things that I have written this short composition. And my intention in it was to present with clarity in front of you the general principles of faith and [divine] service in such a way that you could understand them properly, so that they create a model for you sufficiently free of jumble and confusion. Then you will clearly see their roots and branches and contexts; such that they will sit well upon your heart, and you will acquire them with your mind in the most superior way. And from then on, it will be easy for you to find knowledge of God in all of the sections of the Torah and its commentaries and to understand all of its secrets, 'according to the blessing that the Lord, your God, will bestow upon you.' And see that I have tried to arrange the things in an order that I have thought to be more pleasant, and with words that I have considered fitting, in order to give a full picture of these things which I have decided to teach you. Hence you must now also be precise about all this and hold on to it with outstanding diligence until you find a place where it will help you. And do not neglect any nuance, lest an essential matter escape you. Rather this is what you should do: Be precise with all the words, and make efforts to understand the content of all of the matters and to store all of their truth in your mind. Then you will find it to be a comfort that will benefit you. And behold I have entitled the book, The Way of God. For it truly consists of His ways, may He be blessed, that He revealed to us through His prophets and made known to us through His Torah, and by which He leads us and leads all of His creatures. And I have divided it into four sections: In the first I will speak about the principle of the foundations of existence and its details; in the second about His providence, may He be blessed; in the third about prophecy; and in the fourth about [divine] service. And you, my brother [among] all the seekers of the Lord - go in this 'way' and may the Lord be with you and give you eyes to see and ears to hear the 'wonders of His Torah.' Amen, may it be His will.
И вот, на основании этих слов я составил для тебя, любезный читатель, этот небольшой труд, и намерение моё в нём — представить пред тобою основы веры и служения в ясности, так чтобы ты мог правильно постичь их, и они сложились в твоём разуме в достаточно ясный образ, свободный от путаницы и замешательства. И ты увидишь их корни и ветви в их ступенях, с возможной ясностью, и они утвердятся в твоём сердце, и ты обретёшь их в своём разуме наилучшим образом. А отсюда и далее тебе будет легко находить познание Бога во всех частях Торы и её толкованиях и постигать все её тайны — по благословению Господа, Бога твоего, которое Он даст тебе. И вот, я старался расположить вещи в том порядке, который казался мне наиболее подходящим, и теми словами, которые я счёл наиболее подобающими, чтобы дать тебе полное представление об этих вещах, которые я решил преподать тебе. Поэтому и тебе теперь надлежит быть точным во всём этом и хранить всё это с великим тщанием, пока не найдёшь место, где это послужит тебе, и не упускай ни одной тонкости, дабы не ускользнул от тебя важный смысл. Но вот что ты должен делать: вдумывайся во все слова и стремись постичь суть предметов и удержать всю их истину в своём разуме, и обретёшь покой, который принесёт тебе благо. И вот, я назвал эту книгу «Дерех Ашем» (Путь Господа), ибо она — совокупность путей Его, благословен Он, которые Он открыл нам через Своих пророков и сообщил нам в Своей Торе, и ими Он ведёт нас и ведёт все Свои творения. И я разделил её на четыре части: в первой я буду говорить об основах бытия в целом и их частностях; во второй — о Его Провидении (Ашгахе), благословен Он; в третьей — о Пророчестве (Невуа); и в четвёртой — о Служении. А ты, брат мой, всякий ищущий Господа, — иди этим путём, и Господь будет с тобою, и даст тебе глаза, чтобы видеть, и уши, чтобы слышать чудеса из Торы Его. Амен, да будет так.
