וייטב אלהים למילדות ויהי כי יראו המילדות את האלהים ויעש להם בתים (שמות א כ-כא). פירוש שעשו בתים שדרו ביראת שמים כמו אדם שדר בבית אם כן יכול להטיב להם, ואי משום שנעשה על מנת לקבל פרס כיון שדרו ביראת שמים אין חשש בזה:
Exodus 1,21. “It was because the midwives had demonstrated fear of the Lord, that He built houses for them.” In these houses the midwives lived and could practice their G’d fearing ways undisturbed. In the event that someone would think that the midwives continued their dangerous way of saving Jewish boy babies on account of the heavenly reward they expected for this, the Torah twice mentioned that they were G’d-fearing, so that there was no element of serving G’d for the sake of the eventual reward.
«И Бог делал добро повитухам, и было — так как повитухи боялись Бога, Он устроил им дома» (Шмот 1:20-21). Смысл в том, что они устроили дома, в которых обитали в трепете пред Небесами, — подобно человеку, живущему в доме. Поэтому Он мог воздать им добром. И хотя может показаться, будто они действовали ради награды, — раз они пребывали в богобоязненности, то в этом нет изъяна.
