בפסוק והארץ היתה תוהו ובהו. דהנה ידוע שכל העולמות לא נבראו אלא בשביל ישראל ובשביל הארץ התחתונה אשר בה האדם שהוא עובד את קונו לכן צריך האדם כשעולה זה על לבו שבשבילו נברא העולם וכל המלאכים, שיתלהב עצמו לעבודת הבורא יתברך ברוך הוא כיון שהכל תלוין בו. לכן מפרש התורה. והארץ היתה תוהו ובהו היתה אז במחשבה לכן נבראו ונאצלו כל האורות עליונים והעולמות המצוחצחין. והנה המחשבה כשמחשב בהדבר ומסתכל ומחשב בה נקרא תוהו כמו שפירש''י ז"ל. ואחר התוהו בוהו. היינו הארץ התחתונה שהיתה בכח ולא בפועל כי בעבור כדי שהיה בה האדם שישמש את קונו נבראו ונאצלו כל העולמות העליונים ומה שהוא בכח נקרא בוהו כלומר בו הוא ולכן אמר והארץ היתה תוהו ובוהו והבן:
Turning now to the second verse in the Torah, והארץ היתה תוהו ובוהו, “the state of the earth had been utter chaos;” the author proceeds from our tradition that the entire universe in all its parts was created only for the benefit of the Jewish people, i.e. the physical universe that sustains living creatures, was created only for the benefit of the Jewish people thereon, in order for them to have a chance to become what the Creator hoped they would develop into.Once we reflect on this concept we will realize what a tremendous responsibility each one of us has in becoming a willing servant of the Lord, helping Him realize His fondest hopes for mankind. Even the angels were created only in order to facilitate G’d’s fondest hopes for the holy Jewish nation to be realized. Failure of any Jew to live up to the precepts of the Torah puts the entire universe at risk. Our verse takes us back to the time when the physical universe as we know it had existed in G’d’s mind only as a project. Whatever follows in the report of creation reflects only the stages by which G’d went about in carrying out this gigantic and mind-boggling project. Without the existence of the “higher” world, it would have been impossible to proceed with the creation of the “lower,” physical universe. The words תוהו ובהו are meant to make us reflect on this.
О стихе «И земля была пуста и хаотична» (Берешит 1:2). Известно, что все миры были сотворены лишь ради Израиля и ради нижней земли, на которой пребывает человек, служащий своему Создателю. Поэтому, когда человеку приходит на сердце мысль, что ради него был создан мир и все ангелы, он должен воспламенить себя к служению Творцу, благословен Он, — ведь всё зависит от него. Поэтому Тора объясняет: «И земля была пуста и хаотична» — она была тогда в замысле, и потому были сотворены и эманированы все высшие светы и сияющие миры. Мысль, когда размышляют о чём-то, вглядываются и обдумывают, называется «тоѓу» (хаос, пустота), как объяснил Раши, благословенной памяти. А после «тоѓу» — «воѓу» (безвидность). То есть нижняя земля, которая существовала в потенции, но не в действительности, ибо ради того, чтобы на ней пребывал человек, который будет служить своему Создателю, были сотворены и эманированы все высшие миры. А то, что существует в потенции, называется «воѓу», что означает «бо ѓу» — «в нём оно». Поэтому сказано: «И земля была тоѓу ва-воѓу». И пойми это.
