וְעִקָּר הִזְדַּכְּכוּת שְׁנֵים־עָשָׂר שִׁבְטֵי יָ־הּ, שֶׁהֵם מ"ט אוֹתִיּוֹת, שֶׁהֵם בְּחִינוֹת מ"ט שַׁעֲרֵי תְּשׁוּבָה, הָיָה בְּמִצְרַיִם, שֶׁהוּא בְּחִינַת מֵצַר הַגָּרוֹן, שֶׁהוּא בְּחִינַת תְּשׁוּבָה עִלָּאָה (כַּמּוּבָא בְּכִתְבֵי הָאֲרִ"י זַ"ל, וְעַיֵּן שָׁם וְהָבֵן הֵיטֵב). וְעַל־כֵּן אַחַר שֶׁנִּזְדַּכְּכוּ שָׁם בְּמִצְרַיִם וְזָכוּ לָצֵאת מִשָּׁם, סָפְרוּ מ"ט יְמֵי הַסְּפִירָה, שֶׁהֵם כְּנֶגֶד מ"ט שַׁעֲרֵי תְּשׁוּבָה, שֶׁהֵם בְּחִינַת מ"ט אוֹתִיּוֹת הַנַּ"ל. וּבַיּוֹם הַחֲמִשִּׁים, אָז: וַיֵּרֶד ה' עַל הַר סִינַי (שמות י״ט:כ׳) – זֶה בְּחִינַת: וְאָשׁוּבָה אֲלֵיכֶם, בְּחִינַת הַתְּשׁוּבָה שֶׁל הַשֵּׁם יִתְבָּרַךְ בְּעַצְמוֹ, כִּבְיָכוֹל, בְּחִינַת שַׁעַר הַחֲמִשִּׁים כַּנַּ"ל:
2. Now, the main refinement of the Twelve Tribes of God—who are the forty-nine letters, corresponding to the forty-nine gates of repentance—occurred in MiTZRayim (Egypt), the concept of MeiTZaR (narrow) of the throat, which corresponds to upper repentance (as brought in the writings of the Ari, of blessed memory; see there and understand well). Therefore, after they were refined in Egypt and merited to depart from there, they counted the forty-nine days of the Omer Counting, which correspond to the forty-nine gates of repentance, the aforementioned forty-nine letters. Then, on the fiftieth day, “God descended on Mount Sinai” (Exodus 19:20). This is the concept of “and I will return to you,” the repentance of God Himself, as it were, which corresponds to the fiftieth gate, as mentioned above.

И вот, главное очищение Двенадцати Колен Бога — которые суть сорок девять букв, соответствующие сорока девяти вратам раскаяния, — произошло в МиЦРаим (Египте), в понятии МейЦаР (узость) горла, что соответствует верхнему раскаянию (как приведено в писаниях Ари, да будет благословенна его память; см. там и хорошо пойми). Поэтому, после того как они были очищены в Египте и удостоились выйти оттуда, они отсчитали сорок девять дней Сфират а-Омер, которые соответствуют сорока девяти вратам раскаяния, то есть упомянутым сорока девяти буквам. וְזֶהוּ: וְאֵלֶּה שְׁמוֹת בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל הַבָּאִים מִצְרָיְמָה אֵת יַעֲקֹב אִישׁ וּבֵיתוֹ (שמות א׳:א׳) – סוֹפֵי־תֵבוֹת הֵם אוֹתִיּוֹת תְּהִלִּים וְאוֹתִיּוֹת תְּשׁוּבָה. כִּי עַל־יְדֵי תְּהִלִּים זוֹכִין לִתְשׁוּבָה, שֶׁהִיא בְּחִינַת שְׁמוֹת בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל הַבָּאִים מִצְרָיְמָה וְכוּ'. כִּי מ"ט שַׁעֲרֵי תְּשׁוּבָה הֵם בְּחִינַת מ"ט אוֹתִיּוֹת שֶׁיֵּשׁ בִּשְׁמוֹת בְּנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל הַבָּאִים מִצְרָיְמָה, לְהִזְדַּכֵּךְ שָׁם כַּנַּ"ל:
And this is: v’eileH shemoT bneI yisraeL haba’iM mitzraymaH eT yaakoV iSh u-beitO (“And these are the names of the sons of Israel who came to Egypt; with Yaakov, each man and his household”), the final letters of which spell TeHiLlIM and TeShUVaH. Through Tehillim one merits teshuvah (repentance), the concept of “the names of the sons of Israel who came to Egypt….” For the forty-nine gates of teshuvah are the forty-nine letters in the names of Israel’s sons. They came to Egypt in order to be refined there.
И это: v’eileH shemoT bneI yisraeL haba’iM mitzraymaH eT yaakoV iSh u-beitO («И вот имена сынов Израиля, пришедших в Египет; с Яаковом — каждый человек и дом его»), последние буквы чего составляют TeHiLlIM и TeShUVaH. Через Теилим удостаиваются teshuvah (раскаяния) — в понятии: «имена сынов Израиля, пришедших в Египет…». Ибо сорок девять врат teshuvah — это сорок девять букв в именах сынов Израиля. Они пришли в Египет, чтобы очиститься там.
