קרוב אתה בפיהם ורחוק מכליותם (ירמיהו יב ב) אלו בני אדם המוציאים חטא ונבול פה או דבר רע על חבריהם בכונה ואומר המקום ימחול לנו ואינם במעלת היראה כי אינם יראי חטא ולא שבט אלהים ואימתו עליהם שיוכלו להעמיד את עצמם שלא להוציא מפיהם הדבר הרע וכמדומה בעיניהם שהוא מוחל להם באמרם הצור ימחול לנו לא יאבה ה' סלוח לו כי הם יודעים אותו ומתכונים למרוד:
“Thou art near in their mouth and far from their reins” (Jer. 12:2). These are the people who deliberately attribute sin, obscenity and evil things to their friends and then say, “May the Lord forgive us.” These people are not in the class of the God-fearing, for they do not fear sin. Nor is the rod of God and His awe upon them so that they might be able to restrain themselves and not utter evil. While it appears in their eyes that He pardons them when they say, “May the Lord forgive us,” God will not want to forgive them for they know Him (what He expects of them) and (nevertheless) they intend to rebel.1Shabbath 116a.
«Близок Ты в устах их, но далёк от внутренностей их» (Ирмеяу 12:2). Это люди, намеренно произносящие грех, непристойность или дурное слово о товарищах и говорят: Вездесущий простит нас. И они не на уровне богобоязненности, ибо не боятся ни греха, ни розги Божьей, и страх Его не на них, чтобы смогли удержать себя от произнесения дурного слова. И кажется им, что Он прощает их, когда говорят: Всевышний простит нас. «Не захочет Господь простить ему» — ибо они знают Его и намеренно бунтуют.
