ואם יבא אליך מי שאינו מבין לשון עברי והוא ירא שמים וירצה לכוין או אם תבא לפניך אשה אמור להן שילמדו התפלות בלשון שמבינים כי התפלה אינה אלא בהבנת הלב. ואם הלב אינו יודע מה שיוצא מפיו מה מועיל לו לכך טוב שיתפלל באותו לשון שהוא מבין:
If it will come to pass that a person who doesn't know holy tongue (lashon ivri) will come to you and he is a heaven fearing person who wants to pray with intent or if a woman will come to you - tell them that they should learn how to pray in the language they understand, because prayer requires understanding in one's heart, on the contrary if one's heart does not understand what one utters with his mouth - of what use will this be to him... That's why it is better that one prays in the language he understands.
И если придёт к тебе тот, кто не понимает святого языка, и он богобоязнен и хочет сосредоточиться в молитве, или если придёт к тебе женщина — скажи им, пусть учат молитвы на том языке, который понимают. Ибо молитва — лишь в понимании сердца. И если сердце не знает, что выходит из уст — какая ему польза? Поэтому лучше, чтобы молился на том языке, который понимает.
