אל תביא עצמך לידי עבירה קלה כי היא יביאך לידי חמורה עבר על לא תשנא סוף בא לידי שפיכות דמים שנאמר (דברים יט יא) וכי יהיה איש שונא לרעהו וארב לו וקם עליו והכהו:
Do not bring yourself to a light transgression for it will bring you to a more serious one. If one transgressed the injunction “Thou shalt not hate” he ultimately comes to the “spilling of blood (murder),” for it is said, “But if any man hate his neighbor and lie in wait for him and rise up against him and smite him mortally that he die” (Deut. 19:11).1Aboth 4:2.
Не приводи себя к лёгкому нарушению, ибо оно приведёт тебя к тяжкому. Преступил «не ненавидь» — в конце концов дойдёт до кровопролития, как сказано (Дварим 19:11): «И если будет человек, ненавидящий ближнего своего, и подстережёт его, и восстанет на него, и поразит его».
