משל למה"ד למלך שרצה לרדות את עבדיו וליסרם, עמד הגמון אחד ושאל על מה, אמר לו על כן, א"ל לא עשו עבדיך דבר זה מעולם ואני ערב לך בהם ואתה תבדוק אחריהם, בין כך ובין כך שככה חמת המלך:
[Mar Rachumai continued,] "A parable, to what can this be compared? To a king who wants to punish his servants and whip them. A leader stands and asks why. He says, 'Because of this.' He [the leader] says, 'Your servants never did this thing. I will be their guarantor, and you will investigate them, whether this or that.' The king's anger subsided.
Притча: подобно царю, который хотел наказать и покарать рабов своих. Встал один правитель и спросил: за что? Сказал ему: за то-то и то-то. Сказал ему: рабы твои никогда не делали подобного, и я ручаюсь за них, а ты проверь их. Тем временем утих гнев царя.
