קסז) אבל בכל חכמי וגו': אבל בכל חכמי הגוים ובכל מלכותם, מצאתי זה בספרי הראשונים. אשר הם, המחנות והצבאות שלמעלה, ואע"פ שהפקדו על עניני העולם, וצוה לכל אחד לעשות עבודתו, מי הוא שיעשה, אף אחד מהם, כמוך. משום שאתה רשום בערכך, ואתה רשום במעשיך מכולם. וזה הוא מאין כמוך ה'. מי הוא הסתום הקדוש למעלה ולמטה שיעשה ויהיה כמוך, ויהיה דומה לך, בכל מעשה המלך הקדוש שבשמים ובארץ. אבל הם תהו, וחמודיהם כל יועילו. בהקב"ה כתוב, בראשית ברא אלקים וגו'. במלכותם כתוב, והארץ היתה תהו ובהו.
167. “However, for among all the wise men etc.”However, [regarding the clause] “for among all the wise men of the nations and in all their kingdoms,” this I found in the books of the ancients, that they, the camps and armies above, although they were charged over the affairs of the world and He commanded each to perform his task, who is he who can do even one of them like You? For You are inscribed in Your value, and You are inscribed in Your deeds, [more] than all of them. This is “there is none like You” [Jeremiah 10:7], O Lord. Who is a hidden, holy one above and below, who will act and be like You, and will resemble You in all the deeds of the holy King in heaven and in earth? But they are “vanity [tohu], and their delectable things shall not profit” [Isaiah 44:9]. With regard to the Holy One, blessed be He, it is stated: “In the beginning, God created...” whereas with regard to their kingdom it is stated: “And the earth was unformed [tohu] and void” [Genesis 1:2].
167) Однако «среди всех мудрецов» и т.д.: Однако «среди всех мудрецов народов и во всех их царствах» — нашёл я это в книгах древних. Это станы и воинства наверху, и хотя они назначены над делами мира и каждому заповедано исполнять своё служение, кто из них сделает, хотя бы один из них, подобное Тебе? Ибо Ты отмечен по ценности Своей и отмечен по деяниям Своим среди всех. И это значит: «Нет подобного Тебе, Господи». Кто есть тот сокрытый и святой, наверху и внизу, кто сделает и будет подобен Тебе и уподобится Тебе во всех деяниях святого Царя на небесах и на земле? «Но они — суета, и создания их желанные не принесут пользы». О Святом, благословен Он, написано: «В начале сотворил Бог...» А о их царстве написано: «И земля была пуста и хаотична (тоу ва-воу)».
