קפז) נפק מקמיה וקאים וכו': יצא מלפניו ועמד להכנס באניה. והיו עמו שני אנשים. ראה שתי צפרים, שהיו באות ועפות על הים. הרים קולו ואמר, צפרים צפרים, הרי אתן מעופפות על הים, הראיתם את המקום שבן יוחאי שמה. חיכה מעט, אמר, צפרים צפרים, לכנה והשבנה לי. עפו והלכו. נכנסו בים והלכו להן.
187. “He departed from him and was about, etc.”He departed from him and was about to enter the ship. There were two men with him. He saw two birds approaching and flying over the sea. He raised his voice and proclaimed: “Birds, birds, since you fly over the sea, have you seen the place where the son of Yoḥai is?” He waited a little [and then] declared: “Birds, birds, go and bring me a reply.” They flew away, entered the sea, and departed.
187) Вышел от него и стоял и т.д.: Вышел от него и стоял, чтобы сесть на корабль. И были с ним два человека. Увидел двух птиц, летевших над морем. Поднял голос свой и сказал: птицы, птицы! Вот, вы летите над морем. Видели ли вы место, где пребывает сын Йохая? Подождал немного и сказал: птицы, птицы, идите и принесите мне ответ. Полетели они и улетели. Вошли они в море и скрылись.
פירוש. כי ר"ש ברח מפני המלכות שצותה להורגו, ונסתתר הוא ובנו במערתא חדא (כדאיתא שבת ל"ג:) ולא ידעו איפה הוא. וע"כ יצא רפב"י לבקשו באיי הים.
Explanation: Rabbi Shimon had fled from the [Roman] monarchy, which had ordered his execution, and he and his son had hidden themselves in a cave (as recounted in Shabbat 33b), and thus they did not know where he was. For this reason, Rabbi Pineḥas Ben Yair set out to look for him in the islands of the sea.
Комментарий. Ибо рабби Шимон бежал от царской власти, приказавшей убить его, и скрылся он и сын его в одной пещере (как сказано, Шабат 33б). И не знали, где он. И потому рабби Пинхас бен Яир вышел искать его на островах моря.
