“On that selfsame day, Avraham was circumcised.” 1To clarify the question posed by many Torah commentaries:2
«В тот самый день обрезан был Авраам» и т.д. Why didn’t Avraham circumcise himself beforehand?
Суть в том, что вначале написано: «И обрежьте крайнюю плоть сердца вашего», а затем написано: «И обрежет Г-сподь Бог твой сердце твоё». Это означает: есть два аспекта обрезания. Первый — снизу вверх: мы должны обрезать крайнюю плоть сердца, и это суть тшувы (возвращения), как сказано: «И возвратишься к Г-споду Богу твоему» — через исполнение Торы и заповедей. The Talmud3 declares, that Avraham fulfilled the entire Torah before it was given,
