"And the Kabbalists have written, 'ויהי' (Vayehi) is an expression that denotes distress, as it is known from the sages, and it is related to the future. This is because the word 'ויהי' (Vayehi) has the numerical value of 31, which corresponds to the Sefirah of 'Malkhut' (Kingdom), and it is known that Malkhut is in a state of deficiency and needs rectification (Tikkun)."
