The spies did not want to enter the Land of Israel because they wished to remain in their current status. They knew that upon entering the land, they would lose their greatness and role. Therefore, they preferred to speak negatively about the land, so that the Israelites would not want to enter it, and thus they would remain in their positions in the wilderness.
As previously explained, the spies knew that their root was from the soul of Moses, our teacher. However, they were connected to the aspect of Leah, whereas the Land of Israel is associated with the aspect of Rachel. Only Moses desired to rectify and unite these aspects through their sending, but the spies corrupted this, as explained at length earlier. Yet, we still need to clarify why the spies feared losing their status when they would be in the land. There must have been some basis for the spies' fear of losing their status.
To understand this, we must first elaborate on matters discussed at length in the portion of Vayera (and others).
Шпионы, отправленные в Землю Израиля, не хотели войти в нее, предпочитая остаться на своем положении. Они знали, что, войдя в Землю Израиля, они потеряют свою значимость и роль. Поэтому они предпочли говорить плохо о Земле, чтобы народ Израиля не захотел войти в нее, и тогда они останутся на своих позициях в пустыне (Бамидбар 14:4).
