וּבְמָה שֶׁיִּהְיֶה מֵהֶם פָּעֳלִי שָׁוֶה עִם דִּבּוּרִי אוֹדֶה לָאֵל הָעוֹזֵר אוֹתִי עָלָיו וְהַמּוֹרֶה לִי אֶת שְׁבִילָיו וּבְמָה שֶׁיִּהְיֶה מֵהֶם חוֹלֵק עָלָיו וּמְקַצֵּר מֵהַגִּיעַ אֵלָיו אַאֲשִׁים אֶת נַפְשִׁי וְאוֹכִיחֶנָּה וְאֶטְעוֹן עָלֶיהָ מִמֶּנּוּ עַד שֶׁיִּתְבָּאֵר לָהּ עַוְּלָהּ מִצִּדְקוֹ וּנְטוֹתָהּ מִיָּשְׁרוֹ וְעַוְּתָהּ מִתִּקּוּנוֹ וְקֹצֶר מַעֲשֶׂיהָ מִתַּמּוּתוֹ.
Where my practice was consistent with my words, I thank G-d who helped me in this, and taught me His ways. But where my practice was inconsistent with my words and fell short of attaining this, I blame and rebuke my soul, and argue with it, so that from the standard of righteousness set forth in this work, my soul might realize its own iniquity, and from its standard of justness, its own deviation, and from its uprightness, its own perverseness, and from the perfection there taught, its own short-comings.
И в том, в чём мои дела будут соответствовать моим словам, я буду благодарить Б-га, помогающего мне в этом и указывающего мне Свои стези. А в том, в чём [дела мои] будут расходиться с ними и не достигать этого, я буду обвинять свою душу и укорять её, и предъявлять ей это, пока ей не станет ясна её несправедливость перед лицом Его справедливости, и её отклонение — перед лицом Его прямоты, и её искривление — перед лицом Его совершенства, и ущербность её деяний — перед лицом Его цельности.
