ואח״כ נִתְבָּאֵר לִי מָה שֶׁרָאוּי לָאֶחָד הָאֱמֶת מֵהִתְיַחֲדוֹ בְּהַנְהָגַת הַכֹּל וְשֶׁהַתּוֹעֶלֶת וְהַנֶּזֶק אֵינָם כִּי אִם מִמֶּנּוּ וּבִרְשׁוּתוֹ לְבַדּוֹ הִתְחַיַּבְנוּ לִבְטֹחַ עָלָיו וּלְהִמָּסֵר אֵלָיו. שַׂמְתִּי הַבִּטָּחוֹן שֹׁרֶשׁ רְבִיעִי לַכְּלָל מֵחוֹבוֹת הַלְּבָבוֹת.
It then became clear to me, what is proper regarding the true Unity, that as He alone rules all things and all the benefits and harms we receive come from Him and are under His permission, we are in duty bound to put our trust in Him and to surrender ourselves over to Him. I therefore made Trust in G-d as the fourth root of the general principles of the duties of the heart.
А затем мне стало ясно то, что подобает истинному Единому в силу Его исключительного управления всем, и что польза и вред — только от Него и лишь по Его воле. И мы обязаны уповать на Него и предаться Ему. Я сделал упование (битахон) четвёртым корнем в общей совокупности обязанностей сердец.
