ח וְאֵלּוּ הַכֹּחוֹת הָרוּחָנִיּוֹת, הַיְנוּ הַמַּלְאָכִים, הֵן לְפִי הִתְחַדְּשׁוּת הַתּוֹרָה; וְהִתְחַדְּשׁוּת הַתּוֹרָה – לְפִי הַקְּדֻשָּׁה שֶׁנִּתּוֹסֵף לְמַעְלָה כַּנַּ"ל, לְפִי רְבוֹת הַקְּדֻשָּׁה, כֵּן נִמְשָׁךְ רִבּוּי הַתּוֹרָה, וּלְפִי רֹב הַתּוֹרָה, כֵּן רִבּוּי הַמַּלְאָכִים הַנַּ"ל. וְכֵן לְהֵפֶךְ, הַיְנוּ שֶׁלִּפְעָמִים הַקְּדֻשָּׁה כָּל כָּךְ מֻעֶטֶת, עַד שֶׁהַמַּלְאָכִים הַנִּבְרָאִים מֵחִדּוּשֵׁי הַתּוֹרָה הֵם מְעוּטֵי כֹּחַ, שֶׁאֵין כֹּחַ בְּיָדָם לַעֲנֹשׁ אֶת הָרְשָׁעִים בְּחַרְבָּא וּקְטָלָא, וְאֵין לָהֶם כֹּחַ אֶלָּא לְהַכְנִיעַ אֶת הָרְשָׁעִים בִּלְבַד וּלְהָבִיא מֹרֶךְ בִּלְבָבָם, אֲבָל לֹא לַעֲנֹשׁ אוֹתָם בְּחַרְבָּא לְהַעֲבִיר אוֹתָם:
8. Now, these spiritual forces/angels are commensurate with the renewal of the Torah, and the renewal of the Torah the holiness that is added above. The more the holiness, the more Torah that is drawn; the more the Torah, the more numerous the angels. The reverse is also true. In other words, there are times when the [level of] holiness is so inferior that the angels created from the Torah insights are weak. They lack the ability to receive the power [needed] to punish the wicked with the sword and with death. They only have strength to subdue the wicked and bring fear into their hearts, but not to punish them with the sword and eliminate them entirely.
8. И вот, эти духовные силы/ангелы соразмерны обновлению Торы, а обновление Торы <есть> святость, прибавляемая наверху. Чем больше святости — тем больше Торы притягивается; чем больше Торы — тем многочисленнее ангелы. И наоборот. То есть бывают времена, когда [уровень] святости столь низок, что ангелы, созданные из постижений Торы, слабы. У них нет способности получить силу, [нужную] чтобы наказывать нечестивых мечом и смертью. У них есть лишь сила усмирять нечестивых и внушать страх в их сердца, но не наказывать их мечом и уничтожать их полностью.
