In the Torah portion, it is written: "They came to the Valley of Eshkol and cut down from there a branch with one cluster of grapes, and they carried it on a pole between two; and also of the pomegranates and of the figs" (Numbers 13:23). This verse refers to the spies. According to the simple explanation, as Rashi comments, all the spies except Joshua and Caleb carried the fruits. How did they do it? One took a cluster, one took a pomegranate, and one took a fig. Joshua and Caleb did not take anything because their intention was not to slander the land.
However, in the Zohar (Zohar, Behaalotcha 158b), it is written: "They came to the Valley of Eshkol... Rabbi Abba said, 'They cut down that cluster, but they could not lift it.' Caleb came with them to take it, but they could not lift it. Joshua and Caleb took it and lifted it on their shoulders. This is what is written, 'And they carried it on a pole between two.' From here, Joshua and Caleb knew that they would have a portion and inheritance in the land."
This interpretation in the Zohar seems to completely contradict the simple explanation. How can it be that in the end, the spies' actions were to frighten the Israelites by saying, "This is its fruit," as a negative action? Joshua and Caleb, however, had to exert effort to bring the fruits, as part of the general plan, which is not contradictory to the simple explanation but rather a part of the salvation of Joshua and Caleb from the counsel of the spies.
As explained, the Tzitzit (ציצית) mitzvah symbolizes the Or Makif (אור מקיף, Surrounding Light) and the garments that protect and save them from the fiery dispute of the spies. Similarly, the fruits they brought, the grapes, pomegranates, and figs, served as assistance and support to release them from captivity. Thus, the Tzitzit is connected to this narrative, as they symbolize the protection on their journey to save them from being ensnared by the forces of the Sitra Achra (סטרא אחרא, Other Side). Therefore, these three fruits have a connection to the mitzvah of Tzitzit, as explained.
